Just two years after its launch as a competitor to Twitter<\/a>\u00a0(now X), Meta’s Threads app has surpassed 400 million monthly active users (MAUs),\u00a0\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0‘s president\u00a0Adam Mosseri<\/a>\u00a0announced\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday\u00a0<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Until a few weeks ago, Threads had over 400 million monthly active users,” Mosseri wrote. “It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the last two years. What started as a wild idea to compete with Twitter has evolved into a meaningful platform that encourages the open sharing of perspectives. I’m grateful to all of you for making this place what it is today. There’s a lot of work to be done on our end, and more to come.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This new milestone means Threads added 50 million monthly active users last quarter. Meta CEO\u00a0Mark Zuckerberg<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0announced in the last week of April that the platform had reached over 350 million monthly active users\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0Meanwhile,\u00a0<\/span>according to<\/span><\/a>\u00a0previous statements by\u00a0 X’s former CEO\u00a0Linda Yaccarino<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0, the company’s monthly active user count is over 600 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Recent data from market intelligence provider Similarweb showed that\u00a0\u00a0Threads is approaching X’s daily app users on mobile\u00a0<\/a>. Threads’\u00a0iOS<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Android<\/a>\u00a0mobile app reached 115.1 million daily active users in June 2025, a 127.8% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, X reached 132 million daily active users, a 15.2% decrease from the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Similarweb found that X’s daily website visits worldwide are far ahead of Threads. The Elon Musk-owned social network saw an average of 145.8 million daily website visits worldwide in June, compared to just 6.9 million for Threads.<\/span><\/p>\n
